‘The Hand of God’ Historical Fiction Series

The Cardinal’s Assassin

Christendom, 1248. Religious fervour is brewing in France and an enthusiastic young King Louis IX heralds the birth of a new crusade. But as the King makes his preparations and rallies his noblemen to his cause, an attempt on his life is made that barely fails.

Who seeks to thwart the advance of the Frankish war machine to the Holy Land? A fierce and secretive branch of the Catholic church known as ‘The Order of the Hand of God’ sends one of its best agents to unravel the mystery.

Leonardo, a warrior priest and religious fanatic is both intelligent and ruthless, and once given the command by his mentor, a Cardinal of the Papacy no less, he will stop at nothing until the culprit is discovered. Yet it soon becomes apparent that the plot runs deeper than he’d expected and uncovering the identity of the traitor will not be so easy. Leonardo’s quest will take him from the backstreets of Paris to the rolling hills of Cyprus and beyond, to Outremer. He will have to fight criminal gangs, duel roguish knights, and rub shoulders with the French nobility in search of answers.

Leonardo may have been given a task that puts him far out of his depth…

Baptised By Ice

Henry III, King of England, is anxious to regain a firm grip upon those fruitful lands of southwestern France so coveted by the Plantagenet dynasty. Yet there are those who would have a different outcome. First the local lords rise in open rebellion of the crown, then the King of Spain himself threatens war.

As the vultures circle and the balance of power swings back and forth, the secretive organisation named, ‘The Order of the Hand of God’ sends its agents to help steer Europe’s politics in a less volatile direction.

Leonardo, warrior, spy and churchman, must join forces with Sebastien; a man whom he would once have considered a brother. A seismic event in their past forced a rift between them and now fate has brought them together once again. Can they set aside their differences and work together to achieve their common goal, or will Christendom fall into turmoil?

My Memoir

French Foreign Legion Commando

LEGIO PATRIA NOSTRA -
The Legion is our fatherland.

THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION is a legendary
branch of the French army known for its severe
discipline and its recruitment of ex-convicts, misfits and ruffians from every corner of the globe. Harry was only eighteen years old when he signed a five-year contract that would set him on a path from which there was no turning back. There, he would travel thousands of
miles from home over mountains, through deserts and into danger. He would meet many good men and fight alongside some of the best soldiers the French army has to offer and be tested to his physical and mental limits. It was the adventure of a lifetime.

Amazon reviews from my readers:

“Good insight of a young man's 5 years in the legion, of the trials he went through, the people he met and of modern conflict in Sahel. Its a real page turner, and as a former Special forces soldier I really enjoyed it.”

“This is the best autobiography I have ever read. The author writes as if he is sitting with you, having a beer and sharing some stories. Very well presented and written.”

“Indeed, Harry Dobson has captured the essence of a combat soldier, specifically as a young French Foreign Legionnaire in recent years. He captures the sights, sounds and smells in words as he takes us through training, courses and actual combat. A very good read and incredibly gripping .Bon Chance Legionnaire , Bon chance.”

“It is a pleasure to read a book about the Legion that is not just about the bad side of it. This young boy walked through a gate to face one of the greatest challenges a man can face in the military. An honourable man walked back through that gate and his account of his time pulls no punches and gives an honest opinion and view of his service.”
